The Conservancy purchased the St. Joseph River Floodplain Preserve in early 2020, with a goal of restoring wetlands and functioning floodplain to improve water quality and expand wildlife habitat. This restoration was recently completed with funding from ODNR through the H2Ohio program. The restoration project returned wetlands to the property, converted drainage ditches back to functioning streams and reconnected the river to its floodplain.
A portion of the property has been retained in agricultural use to support the Conservancy’s Food & Farm program.
The preserve is open to limited public access for hiking and wildlife observation. Contact Melanie Coulter for permission to visit the St. Joseph River Floodplain Preserve.
