The Conservancy purchased this 40-acre property on Lake Erie’s West Harbor in 2019 from the Nehls family. We are working with our partners at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge to manage the preserve for wildlife habitat and public recreation.
The property provides excellent opportunities to view migratory and resident bird species. A loop-walking trail, that winds through a restored pollinator meadow and along the water’s edge, is open to the public dawn – dusk.
The preserve features an ADA kayak launch on West Harbor and a pavilion with picnic tables accessible for people who use wheelchairs. There is also a little free library at the trailhead and a Storybook Trail for families to enjoy, which we update monthly.
This Chronolog time-lapse overlooks West Harbor, documenting seasonal changes and spectacular sunrises.
