Black Swamp Conservancy is looking for a Social Media and Marketing Intern to join its growing team.

The Conservancy is an accredited land trust serving northwest Ohio and the Western Lake Erie Basin. The organization currently protects more than 150 properties covering 21,000 acres and representing some of our region’s finest family farms, wetlands, woodlands and other open spaces. Of this, the Conservancy owns twelve nature preserves covering 1,400 acres in eight counties.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Social Media & Marketing Intern (Intern) is responsible for assisting with the promotion of the organization, its accomplishments and activities.

Responsibilities & Scope

The Intern will support the Conservancy’s staff by developing and implementing outreach and promotional campaigns to boost brand awareness and engagement. The duties and responsibilities of the Intern include:

  • Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns across platforms.
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
  • Assist with the development of the Conservancy’s monthly eNews (Swamped) and bi-annual hardcopy newsletter (The Rookery).
  • Envision and execute other marketing initiatives in consultation with the Executive Director.

Qualifications

A successful Social Media Intern candidate will have diverse educational qualifications and technical skills to deliver on the job. These include:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in marketing, digital communications, or a biological / environmental science.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to simply and effectively communicate scientific concepts.
  • Mastery of the major social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics software including Facebook Insights, Google Analytics and Twitter Analytics to track audience engagement and campaign performance.
  • Experience with content management systems, word processor applications and image/video editing software.
  • Curiosity & a love of outdoors.

Location

The Conservancy’s main office is located at near Pemberville, Ohio on a protected property. The Conservancy offers hybrid work schedules at this time – coordinated with their supervisor and depending on the job. This internship will operate mostly remotely with regular video conferencing and occasional in-person check-ins.

Compensation

Eight to ten hours per week. $12.50 an hour, as a contract position (no employee benefits).
