Dr. Robert L. Nehls Memorial Nature Preserve

4400 Muggy Road, Port Clinton (on Catawba Island)

The Conservancy purchased this 40-acre property on Lake Erie’s West Harbor in 2019 from the Nehls family. We are working with our partners at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge to manage the preserve for wildlife habitat and public recreation.

The property provides excellent opportunities to view migratory and resident bird species.  A loop-walking trail, that winds through a restored pollinator meadow and along the water’s edge, is open to the public dawn – dusk.

In 2021, we will be installing an ADA kayak launch and restoring wetlands at the preserve.

This Chronolog time-lapse overlooks West Harbor, documenting seasonal changes and spectacular sunrises.
