Nature, Together
Stewardship begins with connection. At Black Swamp Conservancy, we bring our community closer to woods, wetlands, working farms, clean water, and each other.
Education is one of the ways we care for the land we protect. We help students step into living landscapes near their schools where lessons move beyond the classroom and into the outdoors. Here, they can see firsthand how soil, streams, plants, and wildlife are all connected, and how their own choices shape the health of the land and water around them.
Our programs are rooted in experience. Students might explore a restored floodplain, track soil changes, or learn how prairie meadows improve water quality. These moments build understanding and a lasting sense of place.
We also invest in the next generation of conservation leaders by supporting students as they pursue careers in environmental science, agriculture, and land stewardship. Through the Dr. Donald R. Knepper Memorial Scholarship and hands-on learning opportunities, we help connect passion with purpose and provide pathways into this work.
Education at the Conservancy reaches beyond students. Year-round, we invite the community to workshops, guided experiences, and volunteer days that deepen understanding of northwest Ohio’s natural and agricultural heritage. These events create space for curiosity, conversation, and connection.
Conservation is not only about protecting land today. It is about equipping this generation and the next with the knowledge, skills, and sense of responsibility to care for it tomorrow.
